A BANKER bailed out of his private plane and let it crash in a desperate bid to fake his own death, it was claimed yesterday.

US sheriffs and the FBI were last night hunting across America for Marc Schrenker,38.

Schrenker faced ruin after his financial firms collapsed when a court ordered him to pay EUR500,000 to a company he was accused of ripping off. Then his wife Michelle hit him with divorce papers - just after fraud police raided his house in Anderson, Indiana.

Schrenker is believed to have parachuted to safety from his Piper turboprop plane on Monday.

He later sent an email to a neighbour insisting the crash was a genuine accident but chillingly added: "By the time you read this I'll be gone."

Schrenker was last seen on Monday in Alabama - 225 miles from the crash site.
