BANK SOUTH ANNOUNCES DELIVERY SYSTEM ENHANCEMENTS 'TOMORROW'S DELIVERY SYSTEM TODAY'
ATLANTA, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Bank South (NASDAQ: BKSO) has announced plans for enhancements to its banking system, including additions, consolidations and relocations of several branches; the redesign of over 100 branches, and a new telephone banking system that allows customers to open accounts and apply for loans over the telephone. The enhancements, which are expected to be completed during 1993, reflect the bank's commitment to have the most convenient and efficient delivery systems in its marketplace. "As we bring tomorrow's delivery systems to our customers today, we're constantly improving every method of providing customer service -- person-to-person, electronic and telephone," said Lee Sessions, head of Consumer, Investment and Trust Banking. "All of these together provide our customers with unparalleled banking ease and convenience." During 1993, three new branches will open in Alpharetta, Norcross and south DeKalb, and two others will be consolidated into other branches in Buckhead and Morrow (Clayton County). In Cumming, a branch will relocate into a nearby Kroger store, offering full-service, seven- day banking until 8 p.m. for the first time by any bank in Forsyth County. Bank South customers will also benefit from the redesign of over 100 banking offices system-wide. Consistent with the Bank South mission of delivering superior and innovative financial services to its customers, the redesign will better communicate specific product features and benefits while also bringing a more lively appearance to each branch. The redesign, which is expected to be completed by year-end, will make the branches more consistent with Bank South's emerging identity as the most convenient and innovative bank in its marketplace. The new Tele-Services system has been tested during recent weeks with only nominal marketing support, but has already received thousands of calls. Tele-Services relieves Bank South customers of most of the paperwork required to open an account and apply for a loan. Customers relay information to a Bank South personal banker by telephone, and Bank South does the paperwork. The customers need only visit the banking office of their choice to sign their names. The Tele-Services number is 452-2006 in metro Atlanta, or 800-841-5742 outside the metro area, and is available from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. "Our services are readily available virtually every waking moment seven days a week," Sessions said. Branch Openings All three new branches will be full-service "InStore" offices: -- The Norcross branch, to be located in the Kroger store at 6050 Peachtree Parkway, is scheduled to open mid-year. This location is across the street from Bank South's free-standing Peachtree Corners branch in the Centre Stage Shopping Center. -- A new branch will open on May 20 in Kroger's largest Atlanta-area store, located at 10945 State Bridge Road in Alpharetta. This will be Bank South's largest InStore branch, providing more space than ever before forc?onsumer and small business lending and other financial services. -- In south Decatur, a branch will open in Kroger's new Citi-Center II store, scheduled to open later this year. This branch will be located in the Belvedere Plaza Shopping Center at Memorial Drive and Columbia Drive in south DeKalb County. The Citi-Center II store will be a 74,000-square-foot store similar to the Kroger store at Citi-Center I on Stewart Avenue. Branch Relocation In Cumming, a free-standing branch at the Tri-County Plaza Shopping Center, will be consolidated into a new full-service InStore office in the Kroger store at 540 Lakeland Plaza, across the street from the existing branch. The InStore Office will be open seven days a week until 8 p.m. Also, customers will be able to make deposits as well as withdrawals and other transactions at a convenient drive-up 24-hour automatic teller machine (ATM). Branch Consolidations In Buckhead, a limited-service banking office located at the Peachtree Battle Shopping Center will be consolidated into the full- service Bank South office at the intersection of Peachtree and Roswell roads. The Buckhead office offers customers a complete range of banking products, including commercial and private banking services, an ATM and drive-thru service. In Morrow, the Lake Harbin office at 2397 Lake Harbin Road will be consolidated into the Southlake branch, located at 1135 Morrow Industrial Boulevard in Morrow, across from Southlake Mall. Sessions said the delivery system changes will improve service and efficiency. "With these modifications to our delivery system, we will have four new InStore branches serving the north and south metro areas. Customers of these branches will be able to bank until 8 p.m. seven days a week -- a convenience provided by no other bank. We hope that the people in these areas will join the thousands who have traded in their out-of-state banks for Bank South." Bank South presently has 133 full-service offices, including 45 InStore offices, and 253 automatic teller machines in Georgia -- more than any other bank. -0- 3/18/93 /CONTACT: Matt Lewis of Bank South, 404-529-4725/ (BKSO)
