CHINALINK, the Liverpool-based national body supporting Sino-British trade, revealed the latest role of honour at its fifth annual awards in Knowsley Hall last night.

Coinciding with Chinese New Year, the Year of the Rat, Bank of China (UK) was named business of the year.

The outstanding achievement award went to Liverpool university, and media firm Double Act Productions won the special contribution award.

Bank of China was hailed for its support of countless Chinese businesses and students across Merseyside and the UK.

Among last year's deals, the 79-year-old institution led an 11-strong consortium of international banks in an pounds 867maircraft financing deal for British Airways.

Liverpool university was the first from the UKto establish a joint-venture independent university in China.

Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool university in Suzhou, an hour from Liverpool's sister city Shanghai. Student numbers have grown from 160 in 2006 to 730 in 2007 and are set to double this year.

Double Act Productions produced the first fly-on-thewall documentary last year on breaking into the Chinese market.

Brits Get Rich in China featured Knowsley cushion maker Tony Caldeira in his bid to set up a factory with a Chinese partner.

He said that after it was shown on C4, Caldeira's website had more hits in a day than in a year.

China Link director Dr Kegang Wu said the awards panel was, again, very impressed by the calibre of entries and winners.

"These winners are good examples of those who have embraced international markets and rode the tide of globalisation and will inspire more companies in the international market."
