BANK FOR INTERNATIONAL SETTLEMENT'S COMMITTEE ON BANKING SUPERVISION ISSUES PROPOSALS FOR CHANGES IN INTERNATIONAL BANK CAPITAL STANDARDS

NEW YORK, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- New proposals for changes in international bank capital standards were issued today by the Bank for International Settlement's Committee on Banking Supervision in Basle, Switzerland and are available from the New York Federal Reserve Bank's public information department.
The proposals, issued with the agreement of the central bank governors of the Group of Ten countries, cover the treatment of netting and market risk in determining appropriate levels of capital, as well as proposals for the measurement of interest rate risk, for banks throughout the world. The Basle Committee is asking for public comment on the proposals through the end of 1993.
These proposals modify the minimum bank capital recommendations adopted in 1988 and instituted in some form by all of the Group of Ten nations and numerous other countries.
The Basle Committee is headed by E. Gerald Corrigan, president of the New York Federal Reserve Bank.
Copies of the proposals and the accompanying news release can be obtained at the New York Fed's public information department, 13th floor, 33 Liberty Street, New York.
