BANCTEC ANNOUNCES NEW PC-BASED IMAGE STATEMENT PRINT SYSTEM
DALLAS, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- BancTec, Inc. (NASDAQ: BTEC) has announced a PC-based image statement print product that will assist mid- sized banks and other financial institutions in improving customer service and increasing check processing efficiency. Image statement print systems enable banks to provide their customers with monthly statements that include printed images of checks rather than the actual paper checks. In 1991 BancTec announced a mainframe host-dependent image statement product which continues to be successfully marketed to larger banks. With the lower priced PC-based product, regional and community banks will be able to join larger banks in economically offering image statements to their customers.
This new product combines image capture transports, 3890 emulation capability, image MICR repair and menu-driven presentation software on BancTec's proven ImageFIRST(R) platform. Product availability is scheduled for December 1992.
Glenview State Bank (GSB), a $470 million family-owned bank in Glenview, Ill., is the first financial institution to purchase BancTec's ImageFIRST system utilizing the new PC-based image statement system solution. Glenview State Bank's Chairman, John Jones, states, "We are looking forward to the installation and implementation of the ImageFIRST statement system. It is important for community banks like ours to be able to offer customer services beyond that which larger banks offer. Our objective with this technology is to provide our customers with more value; image statements will enable them to more easily reconcile, organize and store their checks and will enable GSB to realize operations benefits over time. We're committed to providing products that yield tangible benefits to our banking customers."
In a related activity, BancTec and M & I Data Services, Inc. have announced a co-marketing and technology sharing agreement that will enable financial institutions to utilize M & I's Custom Statement Formatter (CSF) and BancTec's ImageFIRST PC-based image statement print system to build an enhanced imaging solution. M & I is an acknowledged leader in bank data processing services and their CSF product is utilized by banks throughout the world to make statement design and report generation more efficient. The combination of BancTec's ImageFIRST statement system and M & I's output management products will be beneficial to the large number of banks who are now considering image statement technology.
Image statements yield significant benefits to the retail and operations areas of banks and to bank customers. Benefits to banks include:
-- Postage savings realized by mailing one or two pages of reduced check images vs. stack of actual checks to each customer.
-- Time and labor cost savings realized by reducing the number of check sorting passes needed in the processing cycle.
-- Additional fee income generated by those banks that choose to charge for image statement related services.
-- Market share gains from consumer acceptance of image statement products.
 Benefits to bank customers include:
-- Time savings due to simplified account reconciliation: Check images are printed in numerical order, eliminating the need to manually re-sort paper checks.
-- Storage space savings: Pages with multiple images are easier to file and store than stacks of paper checks.
