BANC ONE INSTALLS NEW STRATEGIC BANKING SYSTEM
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Banc One Corporation

(NYSE: ONE) today announced the successful installation of the Strategic Banking System(TM) in Marion, Ohio. This marks the first time the new system has been used in production at Banc One.
The Strategic Banking System(TM) (ESBS) is an integrated banking system that supports customer relationships and processes deposit and credit accounts. "No other banking system provides the extensive information, capabilities and state-of-the-art technical architecture found in ESBS," said David M. Van Lear, president and CEO of Banc One Services Corporation. "Built from the ground up using the latest tools and technology, ESBS is designed to support Banc One's growth, profitability and innovative products well into the future."
The first installation in Marion includes the information and capabilities to manage and maintain customer relationships. It works in conjunction with a PC-based Branch Automation system, which was also installed recently in Marion. Together, these two systems provide bankers with the ability to sell effectively and respond quickly to customer requests.
Marion was selected as the pilot bank because of its manageable size and close proximity to Columbus. The Marion bank is also a strong operational bank with an experienced staff and an ability to adapt to change.
"Marion's first few days using the system have been remarkably successful," reported Steven C. Futrell, president and chief executive officer of Bank One, Marion. "Our staff began using the system the minute the doors opened for business the morning after the conversion. It really has been easy to learn and far easier to use than our old system."
Banc One will add ESBS deposit and credit functions in Marion next year and begin installing the customer function in other Banc One affiliate banks.
The Strategic Banking System(TM) is the result of a joint development project with EDS and Norwest Corporation.
