BAN THE TV GUN SHOCKER; DUNBLANE PLEA TO SCRAP NEIGHBOURS.

Bosses at the BBC are being urged to scrap dramatic shooting scenes planned for screening in Neighbours.

The soap - which is hugely popular with youngsters - will include episodes about a shoot-out which leaves a young star dead.

But the proposed scenes have been slammed as "inappropriate and insensitive" in the wake of the Dunblane massacre.

Actress Peta Brady's character Cody Willis is fatally injured after being caught up in a gun battle in Ramsay Street.

And even the show's producer has described the scenes as "harrowing".

Yesterday, Gerry McDermott, a spokesman for Dunblane Primary School - where 16 pupils and their teacher were gunned down - said: "This popular programme is shown early in the day at a time when kids will watch. This should not be shown."

The scenes have already been seen Down Under and the UK showing is scheduled for later this year.

A BBC spokeswoman said they had not yet seen the shooting episodes, but added: "With this sort of situation, we would look at it and act accordingly."

Meanwhile, Michael Forsyth has lavished praise on the Sunday Mail's Ban the Guns campaign... and gave the strongest signal yet that the Government is ready to fall in with the demands of our petition, signed by 428,000 readers.

He said: "The way the Mail organised their petition was very dramatic and effective in drawing attention to the public concern."
