BALTIMORE GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY'S MINORITY BUSINESS PROGRAM WINS AWARD FROM FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

BALTIMORE, Nov. 30 ~PRNewswire~ -- Baltimore Gas and Electric Company's (NYSE: BGE) Procurement Opportunity Program recently received a Special Achievement Award from the Minority Business Development Agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
The award was presented to BG&E during the 1992 Minority Enterprise Development Week Regional Awards Tribute held recently in Washington, and recognizes the efforts of BG&E and Procurement Opportunity Coordinator Harold Williams to foster the growth of minority- and women- owned firms in this region.
"It's great to be recognized throughout the region for opportunities we've provided for minority- and women-owned businesses in the community," said Williams. "BG&E wants to provide an equal opportunity for small and small disadvantaged firms so they can become part of the economic mainstream. When these firms grow, our business with them grows."
BG&E had been working with small, minority- and women-owned firms for almost 15 years before the Procurement Opportunity Program became formalized in 1989. Firms that have participated in this program offer services including generator repair, manhole and duct installation, stock brokerage and investment banking, and vehicle paint and repair.
BG&E actively seeks minority- and women-owned firms to take part in its competitive bidding process to provide opportunities to more businesses and to ensure that the company gets the best services for the best value. Ultimately, that helps improve the company's rates and services to its customers.
