BALLY CHOSEN AS FINALIST FOR WINDSOR, ONTARIO, CASINO COMPLEX

CHICAGO, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Arthur M. Goldberg, chairman, chief executive officer and president of Bally Manufacturing Corporation (NYSE: BLY) announced today that Bally's Canada Casino Inc., a subsidiary of Bally's Casino Holdings, Inc., in partnership with Canadian Pacific Hotels & Resorts, is among four firms chosen by the Windsor Casino Complex Selection Committee of Ontario's Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations as finalists in the Windsor Casino selection process.
Bally and Canadian Pacific were chosen based on the merits of their proposal, an evaluation of the companies' ability to develop and finance a project of this magnitude, and their considerable management experience and depth.
Mr. Goldberg said, "With Bally's many years of expertise in casino operation and management and Canadian Pacific's expertise in the Canadian tourism industry, we have a terrific combination that would benefit the citizens of Ontario, and at the same time provide increased value to our shareholders."
Mr. Robert S. DeMone, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Canadian Pacific Hotels & Resorts said, "The selection of Bally and Canadian Pacific as a finalist for the Windsor Casino Complex paves the way for a world-class casino from two companies who are committed to increasing the development of the Canadian tourism industry."
One of the four finalists announced today will be chosen to design, build, finance and operate the Windsor casino. The casino business itself, owned by the provincial government, is expected to bring more than 8,000 jobs to the area and is expected to generate $140 million in annual revenues for the province of Ontario. The casino complex will take approximately 24 months to build from the time the City of Windsor makes the casino land available. A temporary casino site in the Art Gallery of Windsor is expected to open in early 1994.
Recently, Bally's subsidiary, Bally's Casino Holdings, Inc., announced the construction of a 40,000-square-foot dockside casino in Tunica, Miss., and preliminary approval for a 30,000-square-foot riverboat casino at the Julia Street Wharf in New Orleans.
Bally Manufacturing Corporation is one of the world's foremost operators of casino hotel resorts and fitness centers.
Canadian Pacific Hotels & Resorts is a subsidiary of Canadian Pacific Ltd. (NYSE: CP).
