BALLET BRINGS CLASSIC STORIES TO LIFE ON STAGE.

Byline: Daily News

VALENCIA -- The Santa Clarita Ballet's spring performance next weekend will include two favorites, ``Beauty and the Beast'' and ``A Midsummer Night's Dream.''

Performances are scheduled for 2 and 7:30 p.m. June 10 at the Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Valencia.

``Beauty and the Beast'' will feature the Santa Clarita Ballet Company, academy students and guest artists. It tells the story of a beautiful young woman whose father is taken captive after plucking a perfect rose from the cursed Beast's garden.

Beauty offers to take her father's place as the Beast's captive and her fear of the Beast diminishes as friendship ensues. Her love for the Beast removes the curse, transforming him from a hideous creature into a handsome prince.

``A Midsummer Night's Dream,'' featuring a score by composer Felix Mendelssohn that includes his ``Wedding March,'' will be performed by the company and guest artists.

The Shakespeare comedy follows the eloping Hermia and Lysander, Demetrius and his spurned Helena and a band of rustics who get caught in the crossfire of the feuding Titania and Oberon, the Fairy King and Queen of the forest.

Tickets to these performances range in price from $22 to $28 and are available by calling the Santa Clarita Ballet box office at (661) 251-6844.
