BALL CORPORATION IN DISCUSSIONS WITH EASTMAN KODAK COMPANY TO
PURCHASE PARTS OF ITS FEDERAL SYSTEMS DIVISION
MUNCIE, Ind., July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Ball Corporation (NYSE: BLL) today confirmed it is in preliminary discussions with Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE: EK) which could lead to the purchase of a portion of the assets and business of Kodak's Federal Systems Division. The companies will continue due diligence and negotiations which, if successful, would result in a probable fourth quarter closing.
According to Ball's President and Chief Executive Officer, Delmont A. Davis, the potential acquisition would be relatively small compared to Ball's overall investment in the aerospace systems business.
"Kodak's business is profitable and represents an attractive strategic fit with Ball's existing aerospace business," said Davis. Successful completion of this transaction will be contingent upon Ball's determination that the acquisition will add value for our shareholders."
The division is a supplier of high technology equipment and services to the federal government. Certain technologies developed by Kodak would enhance Ball's business potential in key areas.
Ball Corporation manufactures and markets packaging, industrial and consumer products, and provides aerospace systems and professional services to government and commercial customers. The company had sales last year of $2.3 billion.
