 BALL CORPORATION ELECTS W.A. LINCOLN,
D.B. SHELDON TO HEAD METAL PACKAGING UNITS
MUNCIE, Ind., April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Directors of Ball Corporation (NYSE: BLL) have elected William A. Lincoln as executive vice president and David B. Sheldon as a group vice president. This action followed David A. DiLoreto's decision to terminate his services to the company for health reasons. DiLoreto, who has served as group vice president, packaging products since 1989, has had two successful heart bypass operations, the most recent one in 1991.
Lincoln, who has spent his 22-year career at Ball in the metal container business, will have responsibility for all metal packaging operations for the company, including the domestic metal beverage container business; the Ball Packaging Products Canada, Inc. subsidiary, which he has headed since 1988; and Ball's metal decorating and service operations.
Sheldon, a 25-year veteran of the company's metal beverage container business, will head the packaging products group. He most recently was vice president and group executive, sales and marketing for that unit of the company.
"Dave DiLoreto has been a tremendous asset to Ball Corporation for more than two decades and will be sorely missed," said Delmont A. Davis, president and chief executive officer. "We respect his decision, however, and appreciate his willingness to counsel with Bill Lincoln and Dave Sheldon during their transition period.
"We have placed control of our metal packaging operations in the hands of two well-experienced and respected individuals," Davis continued. "Both Bill Lincoln and Dave Sheldon have very comprehensive backgrounds in our metal packaging operations. They have been with Ball since we entered the metal beverage container business and have played important roles in the changing technology used in the manufacture of two-piece cans, which is our company's largest single product line."
Concurrent with earlier mentioned changes, Ball has named its group vice president of diversified products, John H. Snyder, as its partnership representative to Plastic Packaging Products Company, the company's partnership with Peter Kiewit Sons', Inc.
Lincoln, born in March 1942, is a mechanical engineering graduate of the University of Michigan. Since joining Ball in 1970, he has served in various engineering and plant management positions. He was named vice president, engineering and development for the packaging products group in 1978 and was vice president and group executive for research, development and engineering before becoming group vice president of the corporation and president and chief executive officer of the Canadian subsidiary.
Sheldon, born in January 1942, holds mechanical engineering and MBA degrees from the University of Michigan. He was with Jeffco Manufacturing Co. when Ball acquired that business in 1969, its entry into the metal beverage container industry. He has served in manufacturing and engineering positions, as well as research and development, and has headed the packaging products group sales and marketing efforts since 1977.
