BALDWIN ELECTED TO NWNL COMPANIES BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 MINNEAPOLIS, July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Carolyn H. Baldwin was today elected to the board of directors of The NWNL Companies (NYSE: NWN) and its principal subsidiary, Northwestern National Life Insurance Co.
 Baldwin, 44, is president of Coca-Cola Financial Corp., which makes loans and leases to bottlers and other customers of The Coca-Cola Co. worldwide. She also participates on several worldwide strategic negotiating teams on behalf of The Coca-Cola Co.
 John G. Turner, NWNL chairman and chief executive officer, said, "I am very pleased to welcome Ms. Baldwin to our board of directors. Her experience in several capacities with one of the world's largest corporations will be a significant asset to our board, and her perspective and contributions are certain to be valuable. We look forward to having her as part of our team."
 Baldwin's election increases the number of NWNL board members to 16.
 Baldwin joined The Coca-Cola Co. in 1977 as a senior financial analyst in strategic planning for the United States. She was promoted several months later to a position in the domestic treasury area of the company's Finance Division, where she was responsible for various corporate and U.S. treasury operations.
 In 1981, Baldwin was named assistant treasurer and manager of Latin America Treasury Services, with responsibility for a variety of financial functions for Coca-Cola's business in Latin America. She assumed her current position in February 1991.
 Baldwin is a member of the boards of directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta and chairman of its Audit Committee; Renaissance Capital Corp.; the River Plate Consolidated Bottling Cos., a group of bottling companies in Argentina and Uruguay, where she is also chairman of the Capital Projects Committee; and Industria de Cafe S.A. in Guatemala, an affiliate of The Coca-Cola Co.
 In additional, Baldwin is a member of Leadership Atlanta, the Executive Leadership Council, the Society of International Business Fellows, and the National Black MBA Association. She is also a Certified Mediator with the Neighborhood Justice Center of Atlanta Inc.
 Baldwin graduated in 1970 from Fisk University, where she majored in economics and business administration. She received an MBA in finance from the University of Chicago in 1972.
