 BALDASSARI NAMED JCP&L PRESIDENT
MORRISTOWN, N.J., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Dennis Baldassari has been

elected president and chief operating officer of Jersey Central Power & Light Company, effective immediately, the company announced today. He succeeds James R. Leva, who in January was elected president and chief executive officer of General Public Utilities (NYSE: GPU), of which Jersey Central is a subsidiary.
Baldassari has been serving as vice president-rates and materials & services at JCP&L.
"I am pleased and honored to accept this position," said Baldassari. "This is a challenging time for the electric utility industry. I look forward to these new opportunities and am confident that Jersey Central will continue to be a strong positive influence in our industry and state."
A native of Pottstown, Pa., Baldassari earned a bachelor of science degree in commerce and engineering from Drexel University where he majored in finance.
He joined the GPU system in 1968 when he was hired by Metropolitan Edison Company in Reading, Pa., as a student trainee. He was later assigned in the same capacity to General Public Utilities.
In 1972, Baldassari was named staff assistant in the treasury department of GPU, then located in New York. In 1977, he was named manager of financial planning and in 1978 was elected assistant treasurer of GPU Service Corporation.
Baldassari arrived at Jersey Central in 1979 when he was elected secretary-treasurer. In 1982, he was named vice president-rates and treasurer and was also elected to the company's board of directors.
Baldassari is married to the former Eileen Moyer of Phoenixville, Pa. They reside in Morris Township with their three children, Michelle, Dennis and Kathryn.
