BACKPACKER'S BODY ON WAY HOME.

Byline: PADDY CLANCY

THE body of Elaine Morrow, the 23-year-old backpacker who died while scuba-diving in Australia more than two weeks ago, is on its way home to Ireland.

It's expected at Dublin Airport this evening and will be at her home in Ballintra, Co Donegal, later tonight.

Elaine's funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon after a service in the village at the Drumholm Parish Church of Ireland.

The NUI Maynooth biology graduate, who had recently arrived in Australia on a one-year visa, was scuba-diving with a group in the popular Whitsunday Islands off Queensland on April 18 when she failed to resurface.

She had become separated from a team of divers and an instructor. When they didn't see her above water after they surfaced, searchers returned to the ocean floor where they found Elaine.

Witnesses and emergency services were unable to revive her. The family has been told it could be months before an investigation into the drowning is completed.
