Churchill High senior

honored as a performer

Katrina Morehouse, daughter of John and Donna Morehouse of Eugene, has been named the Performing Arts Student of the Month for March by the Support Hultcenter Operations.

Morehouse is a senior at Churchill High School, where she excels in music and theater. She plays tenor sax in the wind ensemble, the jazz group and the pep band. She sings in three choirs and performs with the Lancesingers. She played Bloody Mary in "South Pacific" and has held leading parts in "The Musical" and "Hero's Journey."

Springfield student

wins Shakespeare award

Melissa Rodriguez, a student at Springfield High School, won the Oregon State Solo Shakespeare Competition sponsored by the Portland branch of the English Speaking Union.

She portrayed Mistress Quickly from Act II, Scene 2 of "The Merry Wives of Windsor" and read William Shakespeare's Sonnet No. 5. She will represent Oregon in April at the National Shakespeare Solo Competition in New York City.
