 BACHMAN REPORTS RESULTS FOR SECOND QUARTER
 BURLINGTON, Mass., Jan. 20, 1992 -- Bachman Information Systems,


Inc. (NASDAQ: BACH) today reported worldwide revenues of $11.1 million for its second fiscal quarter ended Dec. 31, 1991, its first quarter as a publicly held corporation.
 For the second quarter of fiscal 1992, BACHMAN worldwide revenues increased 63 percent compared to revenues of $6.8 million in the second quarter of fiscal 1991. Net income was $489,000 (7 cents per share), compared to $309,000 (5 cents per share) in the second quarter of fiscal 1991.
 Net income for the quarters ended Dec. 31, 1991 and 1990, includes extraordinary items of $144,000 (2 cents per share) and $110,000 (2 cents per share), respectively, representing a reduction of income taxes due to utilization of prior years' operating losses.
 For the six months ended Dec. 31, 1991, BACHMAN worldwide revenues increased 57 percent to $20.3 million compared with $12.9 million for the six months ended Dec. 31, 1990. Net income for the six months ended Dec. 31, 1991 was $907,000 (13 cents per share), compared to $891,000 (13 cents per share) in the year-earlier period.
 Net income for the six-month period ended Dec. 31, 1991 and 1990, includes extraordinary items of $258,000 (4 cents per share) and $314,000 (5 cents per share), respectively, representing a reduction of income taxes due to utilization of prior years' operating losses.
 BACHMAN President and Chief Executive Officer Arnold A. Kraft said, "We are pleased with the overall performance of the company during the second quarter. BACHMAN's growth demonstrates that the CASE market is growing. The market is demanding products with measurable value. BACHMAN's Model Driven Development architecture allows corporations and government agencies to develop applications faster and with fewer errors, and in a way that can be easily reused for future projects."
 During the quarter, BACHMAN continued to focus on increasing awareness of its Model Driven Development architecture with customers and prospects that require fully integrated CASE solutions, and on enhancing its market-leading DB2(a) design tools user base.
 The company continued to strengthen its sales, marketing and support capabilities throughout the world. Overall, sales to customers outside North America continued to expand as a percentage of total revenue. For the second quarter of fiscal 1992, international revenue was $3.6 million, or 33 percent of total sales, compared with $1.6 million, or 23 percent, for the second quarter of fiscal 1991.
 The company established wholly owned subsidiaries to begin direct distribution and support responsibilities in France, Italy, and the United Kingdom. The company also formally announced the creation of a sales channel to begin marketing its products in the Latin American countries.
 The company continued its strategic investments in product development. Many activities are focused on preparing for the annual BACHMAN International User Conference, scheduled for April 5-8 in Boston. At the conference, BACHMAN will continue its practice of obtaining customer feedback and product requirements, and showcase new products.
