BACHMAN EXTENDS SUPPORT FOR APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT CYCLE WITH WORKGROUP PRODUCT AND EXPANDED CODE GENERATION

BACHMAN EXTENDS SUPPORT FOR APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT CYCLE WITH
WORKGROUP PRODUCT AND EXPANDED CODE GENERATION
BOSTON, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Bachman Information Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: BACH) today extended its support of the full range of application development activities with the announcement of a new workgroup product, expanded code generation, and enhancements to its existing product line.
Highlights of the announcement include a new product called the BACHMAN/Shared Work Manager that enables groups of analysts to share models, and a new version of the BACHMAN/Designer that has been significantly enhanced to expand the product's ability to fully translate business models into code through popular code generators. All of today's announcements support model driven development, BACHMAN's application development architecture that helps organizations respond quickly to changing business conditions, independent of technology changes. The announcements are being made at BACHMAN's third annual international user conference being held in Boston April 5, 6, 7, and 8. The conference is being attended by over 600 participants from around the world. New Product to Improve Group Collaboration
The BACHMAN/Shared Work Manager is the first workgroup product for Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE) that takes an intelligent approach to resolving conflicts that arise in a multi-user environment. It allows groups to interact in a manner consistent with an organization's culture and workflow methods. The product helps users achieve a shortened development cycle while enhancing application quality because it supports parallel development, increases consistency across applications, streamlines workflow and simplifies and encourages team work.
Instead of yesterday's linear path, BACHMAN supports a parallel approach. The BACHMAN/Shared Work Manager allows multiple analysts to work concurrently on an enterprise model. This new approach minimizes non-productive time, maximizes cooperation among analysts, and reduces errors. Users can work on specific areas of an integrated business model such as accounts payable, personnel or payroll, and merge these subject areas back into one updated model through facilities provided in the BACHMAN/Shared Work Manager. Product Enhanced to Provide Open Environment for Code Generation
The BACHMAN/Designer has been significantly enhanced to expand the product's ability to fully translate business models developed in the BACHMAN/Analyst through code generators into applications. This allows users to automatically generate applications from models. The BACHMAN/Designer provides productivity and quality improvements through seamless integration with BACHMAN's modeling environment, automatic code generation, elimination of syntactical errors and the ability to generate production-ready code the first time that accurately reflects business requirements.
The BACHMAN/Designer allows users to forward engineer business models created in the BACHMAN/Analyst directly into application code through an industry standard format -- External Source Format (ESF) -- without re-keying. Support for ESF provides a gateway to multiple code generators, since any code generator or Fourth Generation Language (4GL) that reads ESF can accept output from the BACHMAN/Designer, including IBM's CSP and Synon's Synon/2E. Enhancements to BACHMAN's Existing Product Set
BACHMAN also announced a new release of its product set. Highlights include:
--Enhancements to the BACHMAN/Analyst to support shared work in a modeling environment as well as new features to improve ease-of-use and increase the power of the BACHMAN/Analyst.
--Enhancements to the BACHMAN/Database Administrator that provide the ability to enforce naming standards and additional support for DB2 V2R3.
