BABY BOY SAVAGED TO DEATH BY ALSATIAN.
A TWO-MONTH-OLD boy has been savagely killed in his cot - by his family's pet dog.
The British baby - named simply as Andre - was mauled to death by the Alsatian while his grandmother slept.
Yesterday, the distraught gran - understood to be Mary Barton - was being questioned by police in the French village of Holque, near Calais.
Andre had been left with Mrs Barton, who is in her 50s, while his mum Belinda went shopping.
The tot was buried yesterday in a simple grave, marked by a small, wooden cross.
And Mary's husband Alan would only say: "An accident is an accident. There is nothing we can do about it.
"I wish to Christ there was. We have just been to see the grave - it is terrible." When asked about his wife, he replied: "She is under sedation."
Police refused to confirm the name of the dead child, or his relatives, but locals identified them as a British family who had lived in the village for more than a decade.
A police spokesman said: "As far as we know, the child was sleeping in a cot when the dog attacked, giving it several bites.
"The mother is understandably utterly devastated. And a full investigation is underway."
Judges will now decide whether to have the dog - called Jack - destroyed.
