Azzi launches campaign to fight corruption at MoL.

NNA - Minister of Labor, Sejaan Azzi, on Friday devoted a news conference to launch a campaign that aims to fight corruption inside the Ministry, where hundreds of thousands of formalities are accomplished every year, following spiraling complaints over bribery and kickbacks. A fresh memo issued by Azzi indicates that citizens who want their formalities completed within less than 3 to 15 days are to pay 50000 L.L. for a special fund at the Ministry of Labor, whose benefits eventually go to employees, regardless of their post. "The memo is optional and not mandatory. The sum is paid before an official fund at the Ministry in counterpart of a receipt," Azzi explained. "The memo aims to prevent bribery," he stressed. According to the Minister, a committee was formed to execute the memo. But he made it clear that he would suspend the memo and forward it to the Cabinet, if people didn't agree on it. Furthermore, Azzi circulated another attached memo as per which any employee who earns money over any formality independently of the due receipt is to be under the penalty of law. ===========R.A.H.
