Azerbaijan : SOCAR intends to create Breakwater Infrastructure.

State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic, SOCAR Kulevi oil terminal situated on the Black Sea coast of Georgia aims to make breakwater infrastructure.

Construction of breakwater structures was advised in design documentation and social and environmental impact assessment reports and has always been one of the main priorities for the terminal s management as it is situated in the Black Sea coastal zone, which is during storm periods mainly under the effect of sea waves from west and south-west.

The intensity of waves will be decreased in inshore waters because of the construction of breakwater structures and thereby reduce erosion in the coastal zone neighboring on environmentally sensitive territories and in the Kulevi port, it raises the safety of navigation.

A tender for selecting a contractor for design and construction of the breakwater infrastructure in the future was announced at the end of 2012. All the proposals are presently under consideration.
