Azerbaijan : Expansion of Azerbaijani-Iranian relations was discussed.

The Azerbaijani delegation led by Shahin Mustafayev, co-chair of the State Commission for Economic, Commercial and Humanitarian Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran, is on a visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

On the first day of the visit Shahin Mustafayev met with the Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the State Commission Co-Chair Massoud Kardasian.

At the meeting Shahin Mustafayev emphasized the high level of political relations between Azerbaijan and Iran, the development of cooperation and the political will and joint efforts of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Iran in the expansion of relations. It was noted that in recent years the relations between our countries have entered a new stage. During the last 4 years 10 meetings of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Iran were held, more than 100 reciprocal visits were made, more than 40 documents were signed. The State Commission for Economic, Commercial and Humanitarian Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran conduct intensive work.

Shahin Mustafayev expressed his views on the existing contacts and expansion of cooperation in trade, industry, transport and transit, finance, health and other spheres, and noted that the trade turnover between our countries increased by 16% in 2017. Iran to pay $ 3.1 billion to Azerbaijan USD invested. More than 700 Iranian companies have been registered in the fields of industry, construction, services, communication, trade, transport and agriculture. Work is underway in Azerbaijan's car production plant, jointly with Azerbaijan and Iran, and work on setting up a pharmaceutical plant in Pirallahi Industrial Park continues. In the field of energy such projects as "Khudaferin / Maiden Tower" and "Ordubad / Marazad" hydraulic generators, 330 kV Mugan (Imishli-Parsabad) power line were implemented.

The North-South transport corridor, one of the key areas of the Azerbaijani-Iranian cooperation, is being intensively carried out. 8.3 km in Azerbaijan, 1.4 km of railroads in Iran, railway bridge over Astara River is ready for operation and now the test trains have been carried out. In Astara (Iran) it is planned to lay the foundation of the terminal and build storage facilities. Discussions on the financing of the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway line, part of the North-South transport corridor, are continuing. In 2017, more than 19,000 Azerbaijanis crossed from Russia to Iran and vice versa, while our national carriers in Iran increased by 23.2%.

The number of tourists arriving from Iran to Azerbaijan is increasing year by year and by 2017 it has reached 363 thousand people. Minister Shahin Mustafayev noted that Iranian citizens are the first among the foreigners who get visas through "ASAN visa".

Minister Shahin Mustafayev noted the importance of transferring Astara, Julfa and Bilasuvar border crossing points to 24-hour regime in terms of expanding cooperation between the two countries.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that the relations between independent Azerbaijan and Iran have begun since Heydar Aliyev headed the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and Heydar Aliyev's visit to Iran was the basis for the development of relations between the two countries. It was noted that recently important work was done to develop cooperation between the two countries, a number of mutual visits and meetings were held. Mesud Kardashian also expressed his confidence that the next visit of the Azerbaijani delegation to Iran would contribute to the development of relations, extending the working regime at border crossing points, cooperation in agriculture, finance and banking and healthcare.

The meeting was attended by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Iran Bunyad Huseynov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways Javid Gurbanov and Minister of Economy of Nakhchivan Autonomous Region Famil Seyidov.
