Ayton play Redcar in final.
THE final of the D&G Trophies Eskvale & Cleveland League's Eileen Hodgson Trophy will see Great Ayton United Royals take on Redcar Athletic Reserves following the final group games last week.
Redcar Athletic scored the only goal of the game in the second half through Aaron Dale and then had to await the result of the other game as Loftus Athletic took on Great Ayton United.
Two second half goals from Jordan Rowe and Jordan Smith saw Loftus Athletic run out winners in the game leaving three teams on six points, but the Royals topped the group while Redcar Athletic just edged out Loftus by one goal to go through to the final.
Great Ayton United Royals fell at the final hurdle in the North Riding Saturday Challenge Cup Final. In a tight game Bedale took the lead before Woodier brought the sides level and he then put the Royals in front. Bedale fought back and equalised and both sides had chances to win the game within the ninety minutes before the tie went to penalties.
Both sides scored the opening penalty kick and Bedale then went in front with the second Royals penalty hitting the crossbar. Bedale had their final penalty saved by the Royals keeper so the final Ayton penalty could have sent the penalty kicks to sudden death but the Bedale keeper saved the kick giving his side the win. Results Wednesday North Riding Saturday Challenge Cup Final: Bedale 2 Great Ayton United Royals 2 (Woodier 2), Bedale won 4-3 on penalties.
