Axis Communications Introduces Print Server With Support for Digital Copier Finishing Options in IBM Environments.

LUND, Sweden, Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ --

Axis Communications, a leader in network connectivity, announces today the AXIS 5470e Copier print server, an extension to the company's host-to-LAN print server portfolio. The multi- protocol AXIS 5470e Copier print server makes it possible to take full advantage of a networked digital copier's finishing options in IBM AS/400 and IBM S/390 environments. Features such as stapling, copying and hole punching are now available without the need for host based add-on software or drivers.

"We are very pleased to be able to offer this unique solution for printing in mixed environments," says Inge Persson, product manager at Axis Communications. "The many users who are replacing their analog copiers with digital devices can now share finishing options across the network."

This new Axis print server is a cost-effective, high-speed print solution, and with its support for native IBM system data streams and protocols, the AXIS 5470e Copier print server works without the need for application changes, host-based conversion software, or intermediate servers. The bi-directional communication between printer and IBM host allows true end-to-end management and control as well as the ability to monitor all print jobs. With the additional support of NetWare, UNIX and Windows network operating systems, the AXIS 5470e Copier print server gives virtually any user on the enterprise network access to high speed network printing.

Axis Host-to-LAN Print Servers

Axis host-to-LAN print servers are high-performance devices that deliver world-class support for printing in IBM host system environments such as AS/400 and S/390 while supporting all popular LAN protocols. The flexibility to choose between multiple print methods including TN3270E and TN5250E, as well as SCS and IPDS data streams, makes Axis the ideal solution for the enterprise network.

The AXIS 5470e Copier print server as well as Axis' other host-to-LAN print servers builds upon Axis' 15 years of experience in IBM host printing and leverages the capability of the Axis ETRAX 100 microcontroller to deliver a high level of performance and extensive support for multi-protocol environments. The ETRAX 100 is an optimized 32-bit RISC microcontroller, complete with versatile device I/O and advanced network support.

Pricing and Availability

The AXIS 5470e Copier print server is available now for $950 US (dealer prices may vary). The AXIS 5470e Copier print server carries a three-year warranty.
