Axiom Capital Corporation Supports Hewlett-Packard/Compaq Merger.

Business Editors

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 2001

Axiom Capital Corporation announced today its President, Eric Stevenson, had given a live interview to KTRH news radio station, Houston Texas, Dec. 7, 2001, regarding his view towards the Hewlett-Packard/Compaq merger in light of the Packard Foundation's announcing its intention to vote against that merger.

When asked what Stevenson, a recognized expert in corporate mergers, thought of the Packard Foundation's intent to vote against the merger, Stevenson said, "this isn't a dot-matrix printer company anymore and I find it strange that no one's heard from the institutional investors in these companies. It would appear to me that appealing to the Packard Foundation is more of a publicity stunt to scare other investors from voting for this merger." Stevenson went on to say, "a lot of the shareholders in both Hewlett-Packard and Compaq are tech-savvy, well educated people and they are probably for this deal going through. I believe it's good for both companies, HP makes good computers as well as printers and Compaq has shown itself over time to have improved the quality of its products and can compete effectively. Their combination makes sense."

When asked if Stevenson thought Compaq would survive if the merger fell through, he stated, "Compaq is a good company, it will be around a long time. They will have some problems but they will survive. They're a good company."
