Axe ordeal for family.

A FAMILY of three were tied up and terrorised in their own home by axe-wielding burglars.

The terrified couple, in their early 60s, and their 20-year-old grandson were bound by the wrists by two thugs.

They were chatting together in their home in Colebrook Road, Shirley, when they were confronted by the armed thieves.

Police said one of them was brandishing an axe while the other was carrying a knife.

They were threatened before being tied up. The thieves then scoured the family home for valuables.

The two men stole cash and jewellery and a number of other personal belongings in the incident at 5pm on Wednesday before escaping in a silver BMW 316 vehicle later found abandoned at junction of Walkers Heath Road and Gay Hill Lane, in Druids Heath.

The first offender was white, aged about 25, 5ft 6in tall and skinny. He was described as gaunt, with a pale complexion and with missing teeth..

He was wearing a green/brown beanie hat with a peak, black hooded jacket and tracksuit bottoms.

The second man was also white, aged 28, 5ft 11in tall and skinny. He is also described as being gaunt and pale looking with a ginger brown goatee beard and one tooth in the front of mouth. He was wearing a dark blue baseball cap, Ellesse jacket described as dark blue at the top and cream at the bottom.
