JURY ACQUITS ACTOR HOWELL A jury acquitted actor C Thomas Howell on five misdemeanor counts Tuesday, saying no crime had been committed during his December confrontation with a skateboarder in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley. The charges included hit-and-run, making a terrorist threat, and brandishing a weapon. Deputy City Attorney Brian Michaels said Howell hit a 20-year-old skateboarder with his pickup on Dec 9th, fled the scene, then returned with" a hammer and threatened to hit him. Throughout the trial in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Howell maintained his innocence, saying that if he were a gardener, the skateboarder would not have called police. He said he did not hit Shawn C Burgess with his truck, but they did exchange angry words. The actor played Pony Boy Cutis in The Outsiders and Tyler in ET: The Extra-Terrestrial.--Los Angeles Times
