Awards to recognise neighbours' good spirit.

COUNCIL house tenants in Northumberland are being encouraged to nominate special neighbours for Spirit of the Community Awards.

The annual award scheme, run by Homes for Northumberland (HfN), aims to recognise tenants who have helped other residents to enjoy life more or who have made a difference to others.

This year's five categories are Good Neighbour, Getting Involved, Best Community Group, Garden of the Year, and Young Person of the Year.

Tenants can either nominate themselves or another resident, with the deadline for entries on Saturday, February 28, 2015.

Contenders are then judged by a panel of tenants and winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Holiday Inn, Seaton Burn, on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

Kevin Lowry, HfN managing director, said: "There are so many unsung heroes across Northumberland who give up their own time to help others. We are really proud of the communities in which we work and these awards offer a great way of celebrating all of the good work which would otherwise go unnoticed."

Applications forms are available at HfN offices, community centres, via neighbourhood liaison officers, or by calling 01670 542424.
