Awards day a real Barn-stormer; CYCLING.

BARNESBURY Cycling Club held a presentation day for their Monday Muddy League and George Webster Memorial BMX Cup at Gallagher Park, Bedlington.

Irene Webster agreed to present the inaugural George Webster Memorial Cups awarded for riders in the club's BMX competition as well as our Muddy Monday prizes.

Thanks to CJ Performance Cycles, all riders taking part in any of the events also received a goody bag.

George Webster was a local man who instigated the Friends of Gallagher Park.

He and the club's Stephen McIntosh obtained funding and secured support from local councillors to build the Bedlington track in 2010-11.

Without this, Barnesbury CC would not be coaching at the park or Northumberland County Council would not have a development plan for the park for cycle usage.

Webster's aim was - in tandem with the club - to develop cycling potential regardless of age and ability.

To date the club have organised numerous events at local, regional and national significance at the park and progressed youth coaching to a now weekly activity, allowing local people the opportunity to take part in the sport and develop their pedalling skills.
