Awards: a European showcase.

Who creates the best European software? That question will be answered for the first time this June 1, at a new software awards competition that Ziff-Davis Europe and Soft*letter will host at the Software Publishers Association conference in Cannes, France.

The new Ziff awards (which still lack a formal name) will honor native European PC software products, as well as localized products. To qualify, entries must have shipped during the fifteen months ending this coming March 31, and must exist in at least two languages, one of which is German, French, or English. (In addition, three country" awards will be given to products of German, French, or U.K. origin that are only available in their home language.) General award categories include two premier awards for technical and design excellence, plus ton specialize categories--text management, data management and analysis, utilities, graphics and presentation, environments, publishing, workgroup and network applications, communications, consumer, and education. In addition to best of category" awards, up to five finalists will be named in each category.

Entries will be judged by the senior technical editors of Ziff-Davis's European Direct magazines (PC Direct in the U.K., PC Direkt and PC Professionell in Germany, and PC Expert/Direct in France). Products may be nominated by anyone, including developers, resellers, end users, and the judges themselves. Soft*letter's European office will handle administrative details, and we'll also arrange to have many of the top European developers exhibit at GeoCon/92, our international products expo, August 15-18.

For more information and nomination forms, contact Colleen O'Shea, director, Soft*letter Europe, 51 R. Delbekestraat, 2980 Zoersel, Belgium, telephone 32.3.385-0277; or Tom Stitt, associate publisher, Soft*letter, 17 Main St., Watertown, Mass. 02272-9154; 617/924-3944.
