Award motivates Manpreet.

FOR Manpreet Singh, being adjudged the 'Junior Men Player of the Year' by the Asian Hockey Federation has come at the right time, just before the Asian Games.

" I received a text from Hockey India stating I had been chosen for the award. It is the best thing that could have happened before the Asian Games. It gives me a lot of motivation," Manpreet said.

The midfielder, nicknamed 'Korean' by his teammates, is excited to play in South Korea which he feels is his second home.

" I was nicknamed Korean in school because of my hairstyle. The name has stuck since. Now that South Korea is hosting the Asian Games, I joke with teammates that I am going to play in my home country," he says.

The Asian Games will feature matches of four quarters of 15 minutes each instead of two 35- minute halves. " We have the format in the Hockey India League. The game in the quarter- format is usually fast and we have changed our tactics accordingly," he said.

Manpreet denies any extra pressure for the pool game against Pakistan in Incheon.

" We realise the emotions attached to it. But we will not put pressure on ourselves," Manpreet said.
