RIVER CITY star Gray O'Brien gets the kiss off from Shieldinch as he drunkenly snogs his ex-mother-in-law.

Tongues are wagging when the heart-throb, who plays hairdresser Billy Davis, plants a smacker on shocked Shirley Henderson after they share a bottle of champagne.

But the bubbles burst for Billy when Shirley, played by Barbara Rafferty - Jamesie Cotter's wife Ella in Rab C. Nesbitt - takes off and he realises what he has done.

Billy makes up his mind to head for a new venture in London and leaves with his tail between his legs in the back of a taxi on November 2.

He leaves a string of broken hearts behind including student squeeze Sophie (Cloudia Swan) and single mum Tina (Jenny Ryan).

Of course, former Peak Practice star Gray, 39, has only headed as far as Manchester, where he is starring in Coronation Street as newcomer Tony Gordon.

And he's not exactly crying into his pint in the Rovers Return to have missed out on bedding Shirley, his ex-wife Della's mum.

In Weatherfield he has got his eye on sexy businesswoman Carla Connor, played by former Dream Team star Alison King.

And he's about to find himself in a love triangle when he is joined by another Scots star, original Footballer Wives glamour babe Susie Amy.

Susie, 26, whose parents come from Lanarkshire, starred as TV WAG Chardonnay Lane-Pascoe and she will arrive in Weatherfield in December as Gray's jealous ex-wife Lindsey.

After Tony wins factory boss Carla's heart by filling her office with roses, it is handbags at dawn as his deranged ex gives her a slap on the face.

A soap insider said: "Gray is a lucky boy and he seems to be fighting off the ladies on both shows.

"But there are no happy endings for Billy Davis in River City so he'll be hoping Tony Gordon hasmore luck in Coronation Street."

River City is on BBC1 on Tuesday at 8pm and Friday at 8.30pm.
