Autopsy confirms death by drowning.

MANAMA: A postmortem has confirmed that a Bahraini found dead near a beach on January 13 had drowned, public prosecution head Nayef Yousif said last night. The body of Yousif Ahmed Abbas, 24, was found floating off the Amwaj Island beach.

Mr Yousif said that immediately after receiving a report on Abbas' death by drowning investigations were conducted.

A postmortem was undertaken which revealed the cause of death as drowning.

Moreover, the body also contained residue of a substance used for treatment of psychiatric patients.

Besides, a few minor injuries around the eye could have incurred due to collision with a solid form during drowning, Mr Yousif said.

In addition to that there were no indication of injuries caused by criminal act and his family had affirmed that he was suffering from psychological problems.

The body was returned to his family following the conclusion of the postmortem.

Mr Yousif also stated that on January 18 the family's lawyer Nawaf Mohammed had requested a postmortem to be conducted and that the body of the deceased was under the family's care following that.

Investigations are still ongoing.
