Automating project management processes.

Byline: Infrastructure Today

Today, technology plays an absolutely critical role in improving the efficiency of capital projects as it provides a company complete visibility into the project. Capital project management systems can completely automate the different facets of project management, including estimation, planning and construction management, and integrate this data into the companys corporate IT infrastructure including ERP, Document Management Systems and Legacy application, enabling enterprise wide IT adoption.

This helps companies streamline their processes, control costs and reduce delays. The bottom line is that in the infrastructure domain, the spend on implementing IT tools provides immediate ROI; for example, even a mere 1 per cent cost reduction in a small hundred-crore road project cost is sufficient to recover the investment made in technology.

Massive investments will be seen over the next 10 years in India in the power and energy sector. This is a huge market opportunity for Aurigo to provide its CPMS solutions to help power plant owners and speciality contractors focused on constructing power plants efficiently manage these build-outs. A unique set of automation tools is necessary to supervise the construction or retrofitting operations of power generation plants, given todays bottom line emphasis on environment, fuel efficiency, up-to-date technical features, and the industries overall loss of experienced craft men and supervisory personnel. Outside of the standard construction management challenges, contractors and engineering firms focused on the power industry need to put emphasis on controlling quality and safety at the job site. All this and more can be achieved with CPM solutions like Aurigo BRIX 2009.

The shipbuilding and repair industry requires many workers with many different skills all working in an established organisational structure. Port owners, both private and government, need to constantly manage construction activities for new expansion, ensure periodic repair, maintenance and overhaul programmes are in place, and streamline business processes.

Some of the key business automation challenges that Aurigo addresses for shipbuilding and port owners are estimation and planning, bidding (tendering), contract management, industry compliance, and interdepartmental communication.

Aurigos BRIX 2009 is the companys fifth generation product and the leading capital programme and project management system (CPMS) being used successfully by government agencies, infrastructure owners, construction management firms, repeat builders, and real estate developers across the world. It provides a world class web 2.0 technology framework built on Microsoft technologies to completely automate the entire lifecycle of a capital project starting from estimation, planning, project monitoring, site inspection, asset maintenance, and even asset disposal.

Aurigo is expanding its offering to address segments beyond infrastructurearound CPMS for a cross section of industries such as education, retail, telecom etc.

Being an ISV, Aurigo is also platform agnostic. We presently support integration with Microsoft Dynamics ERP, Document Management Systems and Scheduling Applications. We will soon be offering integration connectors with other leading ERP platforms and ecosystem applications to allow the customer complete freedom in choosing which IT environment they would like to use BRIX in. Aurigo has begun making the necessary investments to address all these verticals and integration programs.

There is a major infrastructure revolution happening in India over the next five years and Aurigo will be a big part of that story. In India, we are investing heavily in sales and marketing, and we are expanding our direct sales team in the west and north regions.
