Autodesk Ships an Updated Version of AutoCad R13 for UNIX; The Leader In Design Software Delivers Object-Oriented Technology to UNIX.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 20, 1996--Responding to the growing demand for object-oriented technology, Autodesk today announced the availability of four updated versions of AutoCAD Release 13 for UNIX, including IBM, Sun, Silicon Graphics, Inc., and Hewlett-Packard.

Now AutoCAD R13 for UNIX includes the same object-oriented application development environment, AutoCAD Runtime Extension (ARX), as AutoCAD R13 software for PCs. AutoCAD R13c4 for UNIX also includes new features, stability enhancement, and performance improvements.

"Bringing object-oriented technology to nine (1) AutoCAD R13 platforms is one great step toward providing greater interoperability to our 1.3 million customers worldwide," said Robert Carr, vice president of engineering at Autodesk.

A few of the new features in AutoCAD R13c4 for UNIX include, ASILISP, Common Desktop Environment (CDE) with drag and drop, Direct Distance Entry, DSVIEWER, Graphical Install, Single-line MTEXT editor, Solid Profiling, Viewing, and Drawing Layout for AutoCAD R13 solids, and Universal Naming Convention (UNC) pathnames.

Customer-benefits of AutoCAD Release 13c4 for UNIX, include true multitasking and multiple sessions, long file names, customizable toolbars, True-Type fonts, and several productivity enhancement features.

(1) AutoCAD R13 provides interoperability between nine platforms, including MS-Windows 95, MS-Windows NT, MS-Windows 3.1, MS-DOS, Windows NT on Digital Alpha Systems, and four UNIX platforms, including IBM RISC System/6000 running AIX, Sun UltraSPARC and SPARCstation on Solaris, Silicon Graphics, Inc. R4000 and R5000 based IRIX systems, and Hewlett-Packard 9000 Series 700 workstations using HP-UX.

Performance improvements have been made in AutoCAD R13 for UNIX to optimize various RISC processors, improve operating system support, object snap, and regens. Additional benefits of AutoCAD Release 13 for UNIX include scaleability, providing a variety of solutions at different price points, and high-performance graphics.

AutoCAD Release 13c4 software for UNIX is available on CD-ROM for a suggested retail price (SRP) of $3,750 each. AutoCAD Release 13 software for personal computers, including Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 3.1, Windows NT on Digital Alpha Systems, and DOS, are all available on a multiplatform license for an SRP of $3,750 on CD-ROM and $3,995 on diskettes.
