Author gets new kidney from kid.

HORSE Whisperer author Nicholas Evans has been given a new kidney by his daughter after almost dying from eating poisonous mushrooms.

The 60-year-old underwent the transplant after zoologist Lauren, in her late 20s, was found to be a perfect match for the operation, which took place two weeks ago.

The procedure was a success and both patients are recovering.

Evans suffered kidney failure in 2008 after he mistakingly ate deadly webcap mushrooms he picked on his brother-inlaw's Altyre Estate, near Forres, Moray.

He also served them up to his wife Charlotte, her brother Sir Alistair Gordon-Cumming and sister-in-law Lady Louisa.

Charlotte has been told she may require a transplant and Sir Alistair is also thought to be on the waiting list.

Evans told organisers of the Way With Words literature festival in Dartington, Devon, which he was due to speak at: "The transplant happened last week. We are both a bit sore but doing fine."

Evans described eating the mushrooms as "absolutely stupid".
