Austrian construction firms with EUR 6.5bn order backlog end-Oct '09.

(ADPnews) - Jan 29, 2010 - Austrian construction companies, excluding subcontractors, reported an order backlog of EUR 6.5 billion (USD 9.059bn) at the end of October 2009, down 6.4% year-on-year, Statistik Austria reported on Friday.

Civil engineering accounted for 51.8% of the backlog, or for some EUR 3.4 billion, down 8.5%. The negative trend was attributed mainly to tunnel construction, which reported a fall of 30.8%, bridge and elevated road construction, down 24.4%, and road construction, down 15.6%. Order backlog growth was registered in hydraulic engineering, up 93.7%, cable network construction, up 78.4%, and railway construction, up 32.2%.

In residential construction the backlog went down 4.8% to EUR 3.1 billion.
