Australian minister to confer Order of Australia honour on Tendulkar on Nov.6.

New Delhi, Nov.2 ( ANI ): Australia's Minister for Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government and Minister for the Arts Simon Crean will confer membership to the Order of Australia on Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar in Mumbai on Tuesday, 6 November.

The honour will be conferred at 5 p.m. at the Malabar Room in the Taj Lands End Hotel in Mumbai's Bandra West area.

The Order of Australia was conferred on Tendulkar by visiting Australian Prime Minister Julian Gillard during her October 16 to 18 visit to India.

Gillard then described her decision to give the honour to Tendulkar as special and something rarely conferred to non-Australians.

"Cricket is of course a very great bond between Australia and India. We are both cricket mad nations. So, I am also very pleased that we are going to confer on Sachin Tendulkar membership of the "Order of Australia". This a very special honour very rarely awarded to someone who is not an Australian citizen or an Australian national," Gillard had said then.

She said that Minister Crean would confer the honour during his visit to India in November.

Gillard further said that it is a very special honour and recognition of such a great batsman.

Tendulkar is the leading run-scorer and century maker in Test and one-day international cricket.

Tendulkar is the only cricketer to accomplish the feat of scoring a hundred centuries in international cricket, which includes 49 ODI and 51 Test centuries.

39-year-old Tendulkar, who is also the only player to score fifty centuries in Test cricket, is currently in South Africa playing in the Champions League Twenty20. ( ANI )
