Australia : Two new District Court Judges Appointed.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette DAth today announced the appointment of two new judges to the District Court in Brisbane.

Barristers Jennifer Rosengren and Bernard Porter QC will take up their appointments on Monday.

Both have already made substantial contributions to the practice of law and will bring a wealth of experience to their new roles, Mrs DAth said.

Mr Porter has 22 years experience in litigation, 17 of those as a barrister. His broad expertise covers insolvency, construction, general commercial, banking and professional negligence.

He completed his Bachelor of Laws at QUT in 1992, and a Bachelor of Civil Law at the University of Oxford before being called to the Bar in 1999 and admitted as a Queens Counsel in 2016.

Jennifer Rosengren was admitted to the Bar in 1996 after completed a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts (Economics) at University of Queensland.

Her areas of expertise include Commissions of Inquiry, Commercial Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution. She also spent 12 years as Counsel Assisting the Office of the State Coroner.

Mrs DAth thanked the Queensland Law Society, Bar Association of Queensland and community representatives on the Judiciary Appointments Advisory Panel for their considered advice.
