Australia : State level sporting organisations to receive funding.

Recreation and Sport Minister Steve Dickson today announced more than $28.1 million funding for sport and recreation organisations as part of a Newman Government pledge to lower the cost of living for Queensland families.

Seventy eight state level sport and recreation organisations will receive the funding under the Queensland Sport and Recreation Industry Development Program 2014-2016, for the delivery and development of state-wide activities, programs and services.

Minister Dickson said the program would increase grassroots participation, develop the capacity of community sport and improve service delivery.

We want to see more people, being more active, more often and that success begins with a strong focus on grassroots sport and recreation, Mr Dickson said.

The Newman Government is also passionate about increasing women and girls lifelong participation in sport and active recreation.

To support this, seven organisations will receive $600,000 funding over three years under the Queensland Sport and Recreation Women and Girls Special Initiative.

Mr Dickson said two peak sport and recreation bodies, QSport and the Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation, would also receive funding of $1.5 million over three years to support the delivery of sporting and recreation opportunities.

The Queensland Government is committed to ensuring major sport and recreation organisations have the capacity to offer services and participation opportunities to Queenslanders, he said.

We are proud to be playing a leading role in the ongoing development of the sport and active recreation industry.
