The Tasmanian Government is pleased to announce that Rod Whitehead has been appointed as Tasmanias new Auditor-General.

Mr Whitehead replaces Mike Blake, who announced his intention to retire last year.

On behalf of the Government I would like to thank Mr Blake for his nearly 12 years of outstanding service and wish him well in his retirement.

The new Auditor-General, Mr Whitehead, has had a distinguished career as an accountant and manager.

Mr Whitehead was educated in Tasmania and began working as a graduate accountant in Launceston in 1983.

Since then, Mr Whitehead has served as a Senior Manager at Price Waterhouse and as a partner with PBS Partners in Launceston. In 1998, Mr Whitehead began working for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and was the Managing Partner in Tasmania between April 2006 and May 2013.

More recently, Mr Whitehead has managed Deloitte Touche Tohmatsus Launceston office. In 2011, Mr Whitehead was also appointed as Chairman of the Tasmania Regional Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, a position that he held for two years.

The Auditor-General is an independent statutory position, with responsibilities that include undertaking audits of the financial statements of Tasmanian State entities, (including agencies, local government, Government Business Enterprises, State-owned companies, and State authorities) and issuing audit reports which outline their compliance with relevant legislation and accounting standards.

Mr Whitehead will begin work in March and we look forward to him taking on this very important role.
