Australia : NSW Government recognises GPT s excellence in sustainability.

The GPT Group (GPT) won three awards at the 2012 NSW Government s Green Globe Awards in Sydney last night. These were for Best Energy Efficiency Strategy, Best Business Sustainability Strategy and Best Built Environment Sustainability Award for GPT s work environment.

The annual Green Globe Awards are the leading environment awards, recognising environmental excellence, leadership and innovation in NSW.

The GPT Group s CEO and Managing Director, Michael Cameron said he was pleased that GPT had again been recognised for its commitment to excellence in sustainability and innovation.

GPT s integrated approach to sustainability has seen us pioneer a range of strategies that demonstrate success and reset market expectations for what is achievable, particularly around the performance of existing buildings and customer engagement in sustainable solutions.

GPT s pursuit of cogeneration and trigeneration as a low carbon solution has required electricity network providers to modify how they deal with embedded generation. GPT s development projects, workplace6, 530 Collins Street, Charlestown Square and ONE ONE ONE Eagle Street, all use on site generation and each have broken new ground with the local electricity network.

We recognise energy efficiency as one of the most cost effective means to reduce greenhouse emissions and the constant drive to do more with less has seen energy use reduced by 18% across our growing portfolios of Retail, Office, Logistics & Business Park assets. In fact, energy use per square metre has been reduced by 28% when compared with a 2005 baseline. Mr Cameron said.

GPT s work environment is the first workplace that integrates technology, activity based working and sustainability for 100% of its workforce. Delivering this in a 33 year old building has seen GPT reset expectations about what can be achieved in a building of this age.

GPT s workplace demonstrates to the industry, GPT tenants and future generations of workers, what can be achieved through smart, sustainable design and, in GPT s case, at a cost no different to its previous accommodation model.

Some of the measurable savings GPT has witnessed since moving into the new fit-out include:

A reduction in paper storage by 90%,

A reduction in paper use by 75%,

A reduction in energy use by 50%,

A lighting energy consumption drop of over 70%,

A reduction in the overall floor space required because of clever planning and greater efficiency and therefore a reduction in rental costs,

A survey of GPT employees reported that on average, they felt 15% more productive in the new work environment.

The recognition received at the 2012 NSW Green Globe Awards acknowledges GPT s 40 year heritage of delivering world class, sustainable developments.
