Australia : Country Liberals work hand in hand with Councils.
The Country Liberals Government is helping to make Katherine safer, with $109,000 in funding to support formalisation works of the public open space at Lindsay Street.
Minister for Local Government Bess Price said the investment would be made through the Northern Territory Government s Local Government Special Purpose Grants program. This government is unwavering in its commitment to improving communities across the Territory; this funding will help the Katherine Town Council to do that, Minister Price said. The Local Government Special Purpose Grants Program is providing a $3 million boost to councils throughout the Northern Territory for specific projects and large capital purchases.
Member for Katherine Willem Westra van Holthe said the $109,000 in government funding will ease the burden on Katherine ratepayers. It s fantastic to be part of a government that is assisting local councils by partnering with them on important funding initiatives, Mr Westra van Holthe said. The Lindsay Street project will help to better connect the Katherine community and make it safer for everyone out on the roads. Katherine Mayor Fay Miller welcomed the funding announcement and said both pedestrians and motorists would benefit.
What we see around this area currently is bottlenecks in and out of the Visitor Information Centre and Lindsay Street Community Complex which is creating traffic chaos, Mrs Miller said. These works will open the area up to allow pedestrians and vehicles to flow freely. The Special Purpose Grant will fund stage one of the formalisation works. 12 councils across the Northern Territory will receive funding under the Special Purpose Grants program.
