Cowans of Cincinnati, Ohio, www.cowanauctions.com. The following were highlights of the April 8, 2017 American Indian and Western Art: Live Salesroom Auction, 495 items. Highlights continued from issue 307.

$27,600 Arapaho Tomahawk Society Staff carved of a single piece of tapering wood; having one end crafted into the form of a horse's head, head is detailed using brass tacks for eyes and red pigment under jaw; throat is wrapped with a white quilled hide thong and trailing fringe coated in red pigment; opposite end of staff is embellished with additional quillwork and red wool, length 38 in., second half 19th century.

$25,200 Huron-Wyandot Wampum Belt From the Collection of Jim Ritchie (1938-2015). An unusually wide belt crafted from hand-spun cotton warps and sinew wefts; deep purple glass beads form a single cross placed in the center and is surrounded by a field of opaque white, tubular glass beads of varying lengths, overall length 42 in. x width 4 in., ca 1750.

$9,000 Great Lakes Pipe Tomahawk, From the Collection of Jan Sorgenfrei. Thin, brass head decorated incised with five leaves, dots, and "barber pole" striping along edge; blade with steel bit; narrow ash handle is fitted with original bone mouthpiece; length 16.25 in., length of head 6.5 in., width of blade 2.25 in., early 19th century.

$7800 Zuni Polychrome Pottery Olla. Classic form with round body, sharp shoulder, and slightly flared rim; with two bands of heartline deer and birds nestled within stepped diamonds and surrounded by fine line hatchwork, height 9.5 in. x diameter 12.25 in., fourth quarter 20th century.

$6720 Sioux Beaded Buffalo Hide Saddle Bags. Sinew-sewn and beaded using colors of white, light blue, red white-heart, pea green, cobalt, and greasy yellow; long fringe hangs from lower seams; interior of bag has remnant of beaded detailing, overall length 87 in. x width 14 in., fourth quarter 19th century.

$6000 Zuni Polychrome Pottery Olla. Elegant form having a sharp shoulder and gradually narrowing neck; two stacked rows of heartline deer are divided by a central vertical design element of hatched and open geometrics, height 10.75 in. x diameter 12 in., fourth quarter 19th century.

$5100 Plains Beaded Hide Tobacco Bag. Ssinew-sewn softly tanned hide and beaded using colors of red white-heart, dark blue, greasy yellow, light blue, and white; throat is coated with orange pigment; long, thin, hide fringe hangs from lower edge, overall length 33.5 in., fourth quarter 19th century.

$4305 Central Plains Beaded Hide Rifle Case. Thread and sinew-sewn with beadwork in colors of medium blue, pea green, greasy yellow, rose, and pink; red wool strip highlights lower edge of case, length 41 in., late 19th century.

$3600 Crow Polychrome Parfleche Cylinder Case. Painted in red, orange, green, yellow, and blue; long, thick, hide fringe hangs along one side; length of parfleche 21 in.; overall length 42 in., late 19th century.

$2760 Kiowa Child's Beaded Hide Moccasins, Exhibited at the Booth Western Art Museum, Cartersville, Georgia. Thread-sewn softly tanned hide and beaded using colors of pony trader blue, translucent green, red white-heart, and Charlotte-cut rose, pink, and --cobalt; hide coated in yellow pigment; heel of moccasins embellished with fringe and fringed tabs, length 5.5 in., late 19th century.

$2640 Sioux Beaded Hide Doctor's Bag. Thread and sinew-sewn hide with glass beads in colors of medium blue, greasy yellow, red white-heart, pea green, and cobalt; interior lined with thin wool, height (including handle) 7.5 in. x width 12 in., fourth quarter 19th century .

$1722 Cheyenne Beaded Hide Leggings, Exhibited at the Booth Western Art Museum, Cartersville, Georgia. Sinew-sewn softly tanned hide; beaded using colors of red white-heart, greasy yellow, dark blue, translucent green, and white; hide coated with yellow pigment; long tabs are embellished with fringe and a beaded cross, length 14 in., fourth quarter 19th century.

$5535 Acoma Polychrome Pottery Jar, c. 1920s, the unusual shaped vessel with overall balanced abstract designs, ht. 5 1/2, dia. 13 3/4 in.

$5228 Navajo Silver and Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace, c. 1930s, the delicate form with handmade beads and graduated round stone settings, lg. extended 19 1/2 in.

$4920 Crow Buffalo Hide Parfleche, c. 1860s, painted on the front with geometric designs, with long fringe from the sides and remnant red trade cloth edging, dark patina, case 11x8 1/2, 1g. of fringe 30 in.

$4920 Lakota Beaded Buffalo Hide Cradle, c. 1870s, beaded with bold geometric designs, the beaded tab at the top with strands of large faceted trade beads and brass hawkbells, (minor bead loss), ht. 20 in.

$4613 Large Hopi Polychrome Pottery Canteen, c. first quarter 20th century, with an elaborate avian pattern, (chips), dia. 8 1/2 in.

$3998 Blackfeet Beaded Buffalo Hide Double Saddlebags, c. last quarter 19th century, the beaded panels with geometric and cross devices, red cloth detail and three brass bells, lg. 112, wd. 11 1/2 in.

$3998 Panamint Coiled Basketry Bowl, c. 1900, the tightly woven form with diagonal geometric design, ht. 7, dia. 14 1/2 in.

$3690 Apache Bowcase and Quiver, c. last quarter 19th century, painted with yellow and red pigments, includes a sinew-backed bow and seven metal-tipped arrows, (damage to hide), lg. of case 40, lg. of bow 41 in.

$3198 Lakota Horse Tail Hair Ornament, c. last quarter 19th century, with quill-wrapped rawhide slats, bone hair pipes and brass beads, quill-wrapped fringe with tin cone danglers, and trade mirrors, (minor quill loss), lg. 31 in.

$3075 Crow Beaded Buffalo Hide Pouch, c. last quarter 19th century, the front and tabs beaded with classic crow designs, lg. including tabs 8 1/2, wd. 4 1/4 in.

$2952 Sioux Beaded Hide Pommel Bags, c. 1880, both sides with inner pockets and beaded on the outside with cross designs, traces of yellow ochre overall, red trade cloth trim, 34 x 9 in.

$2337 Lakota Beaded Buffalo Hide Moccasins, c. 1870s, with multicolored geometric designs, lg. 10 in.

$2337 Sioux Beaded and Quilled Hide Moccasins, c. 1870s, the bifurcated tongues with tin cone and horsehair danglers, (minor quill loss), lg. 10 1/2 in.

$2337 Massive Navajo Silver and Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace, c. 1940, with large silver handmade beads, fourteen blossoms with stamped decoration, and a large naja with three turquoise settings, lg. from clasp to naja tip 23, naja dia. 5 1/2 in.

$2091 Blackfeet Beaded Hide Moccasins, c. 1890, thick buffalo hide beaded with a linear bar design on the vamps, lg. 10 1/2 in.
