Auction ACTION.

THE clans will be gathering at the Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire this Monday for Sotheby's three-day auction of all things Scottish.

Everything from guns to jewellery is on the block. A round-action ejector gun by Edinburgh's John Dickson and Son is valued at pounds 5,000 to pounds 7,000. A pair of 12-bore side-lock ejector guns by James Purdey and Son, crafted in 1948, are expected to fetch pounds 25,000. A rare, single-barrel, four-bore wildfowling gun by EJ Churchill is tagged at pounds 2,500. The jewellery section features expensive diamond pieces with estimates reaching as high as pounds 18,000 but the Scottish pebble jewellery are the most interesting baubles on offer, with prices starting at pounds 150.

Bonhams' annual Scottish sale ends in Edinburgh today. Anyone with pounds 3,500 to spend is encouraged to bid for the 122-year-old penny-farthing bicycle. The front wheel is a grand 50in with the rear is just 16in. This beauty, made in Glasgow by A Howe, is ready to ride and comes with a large double-dome bell.
