Attitude spot on - Mick.

MICK McCarthy has praised the team effort of the Wolves squad - new and old - as they head into the New Year boasting a genuine play-off chance.

The events of pre-season, namely Glenn Hoddle's departure and the loss of the parachute payment, ultimately left McCarthy with 12 days to prepare for the new campaign and a certain amount of doom and gloom from the club's fanbase.

But Wolves took today's break for the FA Cup just a point shy of the top six, and McCarthy (above) has been delighted not only with his new signings but also the way the players already in situe at Molineux responded to his tenure.

"We had 12 days to prepare before the start of the season but I think every single player that has come in has contributed," he said.

"But the players that were here already have also contributed.

"We've had an exceptional goalkeeper in Matt Murray, Jody Craddock has been terrific, and Jackie McNamara has come in from his injury recently and done well.

"Mark Little, Lewis Gobern, Daniel Jones, the young lads who were here have contributed, and Seyi Olofinjana has been excellent - they've all played their part in where we are now.

"I didn't know all the players when I came in and there's been a huge turnaround and a big change but perhaps we weren't as badly off for players as was suggested even having lost so many from last season."
