Attentive staff and a delicious offering; THIS WEEK WE ARE AT THE MASHAM IN HARTBURN. TONI GUILLOT GIVES HER VERDICT.

Name and address: The Masham Pub, Hartburn Village, Stockton.

Type of food: Traditional pub grub. Price range: Starters range from PS5-PS7 with mains around the PS14 mark. Desserts are PS6.95 each.

Cost of a drink: pint of lager PS4, glass of house wine PS5.25, G&T around PS4, fresh orange PS2.50.

First impressions: I hadn't been in the Masham for a long time and was pleasantly surprised by the extended orangery area.

It has completely transformed the feel of the place, creating a bright and spacious area in keeping with the charming and cosy atmosphere.

The staff, despite being rushed off their feet, were attentive and friendly. We did book a table as we knew it would be busy.

Choice of food: The menu is varied and caters for all sorts of taste, and there was a good choice specials, which I was told are ever-changing. What we ate: We shared a starter of pan fried fillet of grey mullet with king prawns and citrus salad for PS5.95. The fish was cooked perfectly and the prawns were plentiful. The tangy salad The opinion the chips and the exactly should complemented the dish well.

For main course we went for the half chicken parmesan with chips and salad, for PS8.75 and the steak pie and suet crust with chips and fine beans, 12.95. Both were from the "Masham Favourites" board, and did not disappoint.

The parmo, in my opinion was faultless, the chips were tasty and the salad was exactly how it should be. The cheese/ bechamel sauce ratio was perfect and the breaded chicken was good quality.

parmo, in my was faultless, were tasty salad was how it be.

The steak pie was also really good. The meat was tender and there was plenty of it. The suet crust was soft in the middle and crispy on the outside: a great alternative to less pastry.

The good bits: there was a lovely atmosphere throughout the pub and I love that it is dog friendly.

The sticky toffee pudding served with butterscotch sauce and ice cream was also delicious!

What could be improved: I honestly had nothing bad to say about our meal. The service was a little slow, but the food was definitely worth the wait and, as I said before, the staff are willing to go above and beyond.

Suitable for couple or family? Both, a place for a cosy date night although it could get quite expensive if you are taking the whole family.

Value for money: Our bill came to PS40 and included a starter, two mains, a dessert and a glass of wine. I thought this was reasonable and was definitely worth the money. Would you go back? Yes, we will be back soon no doubt.

VERDICT: ....

We did be The parmo, in my opinion was faultless, the chips were tasty and the salad was exactly how it should be.
