Athletics: Key week for pair of UK stars.

JONATHAN Edwards and Paula Radcliffe are each entering a critical time as they battle to be fit for the upcoming World Championships in Paris.

Reigning triple jump champion Edwards was stretchered out of the London Grand Prix on Friday night with what has now been revealed as a bad ankle strain.

And Radcliffe was due to decide today whether to call off her 10,000 metres attempts due to a long-standing shin injury which ruled her out at Crystal Palace.

UK Athletics performance director Max Jones admitted it was a make-or-break period for two of the team's biggest stars.

Jones said: 'Jonathan's injury is not as bad as it looked on Friday.

'I think it's just a bad strain and Jonathan's problem is that the event is two weeks away and can he get back in training in time?

'He'll make that call during the week. He keeps going on, but

he has some hard decisions to make.'
