Athletic field rules OK'd, abatements approved.

Byline: Craig S. Semon

WEBSTER - The Board of Selectmen hammered out rules and regulations for the use of town athletic fields and dished out abatements for water and sewer at its meeting March 14.

An athletic field permit application form can be obtained from the Department of Public Works office, 23 Cudworth Road. Applications should be submitted to the DPW office at least 30 days before the first practice or scheduled event.

For an athletic field permit application to be approved, all paperwork must be complete and all fees must be paid when the application is submitted. Costs are as follows: application fee $10 (new or schedule change); field light deposit for night games, $50 per game, ($400 full season); monthly use of lights scheduled late charge, $25 per incident; recreation charge, $25 per game, $150 full season; and fine for unauthorized use of a field, $100 per incident. Payment must be in the form of a check or money order from the organization or applicant.

All organizations and leagues are required to submit an insurance liability statement naming the town as "additional insured" for a minimum of $1 million before a permit will be issued. Organizations will be responsible to the town and/or any third party for any property damage or bodily injury caused by it, any of its hired contractors, employees or agents.

Unless otherwise approved by the director of public works, the organization and any hired contractors must certify that they are insured for workers' compensation, property damage, personal and product liability.
