At least one Dubai resident is happy itAAEs summer...

Provided by

This is an earnest thank you note for all the families who have vacated the city for their summer holidays and given us Dubai for ourselves.

This is my fifth year in Dubai and like clockwork, come July 1st, the city starts emptying out and a slower pace sets in where everyone seems happier, despite the heat. The streets are not as clogged as they usually are (Friday afternoon drives during rush hour on Sheikh Zayed Road are actually pleasant!, you can get a reservation at your favourite restaurant by calling on the same day (practically impossible any other time of the year) and even the malls are bearable with less people jostling around. But alas, all good things come to an end and this too shall pass. But we still have chilled-out Dubai to ourselves for the next month before the holidaymakers alight once again. So for now, enjoy living in a city where you can call for a cab and wait less than five minutes for it to arrive.

Happy in Dubai
